Homemade Dog Treats

Kids Craft Dog Treats008.jpg

Max gets all the glory in this section, so Harper has decided that she wants to be like her ‘mommy’ and do a little cooking for the furbabies in our area.  She decided to give them a great tasting way to cool off during these doggie days. And then there is the peanut butter (Wooooof!) - she couldn’t help herself, she ‘tasted’ four of these right out of the oven!

Frozen Apple Treats

What you need-

2 apples(chopped)

Container of greek yogurt

Splash of water

How to make-

  1. Put your apples in a blender and puree

  2. Add the yogurt

  3. Add a splash of water then put into molds and freeze

  4. Let your dog enjoy on a hot summer day!

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Treats

What you need-

½ cup peanut butter

¼ cup oil

2 eggs

1 cup pumpkin

2 ½ cups whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

How to make-

  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. Combine oil, peanut butter, eggs, and pumpkin.

  3. Add in flour and baking soda.

  4. Roll out and cut with cookie cutters (Bone shapes or ‘hooman’ shapes)

  5. Bake for 15 minutes

How to make the glaze-

  1. Combine 2 tablespoons of bacon grease and 4 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter

  2. Spread the glaze over the baked treats with a spoon

  3. Let your dog enjoy

Notes for ‘Hoomans’:  Our taste testers really got into the Peanut Butter treats, but the frozen - not as much until they melted a little, then they licked them up!  You might want to consider where you give them the frozen treats - make sure it’s someplace that you don’t mind having a puddle that they will lick up!
