Happy Hooman Fathers Day

Father’s day is coming up and we need to make a plan to show our dog dads our appreciation. But before that, I just want to take a moment to note that he wouldn’t be a dad without me… I’m just saying. When I was a puppy he took me on a lot of walks. And even though he has a lot of friends, it was only just us that would go on walks. We usually walked passed cafes and storefronts. We stopped so many times, you could barely call it a walk. He let all the pretty ladies pet me and they all smelled so good—like flowers. Dad must have thought they smelled good too—well, one of them. We still went on lots of walks but she came with us and we went on different walking paths, in parks and hiking trails. Dad gave her a pretty ring as he says she’s going to be my mom. I’m so happy! She smells way better than dad and she rubs my belly all the time. She’s great and dad is happy, too. He deserves to be happy, and I want to let him know how great of a father he is.

I’m going to make a list of all the ways to show your dad how great he is. Email me your own ideas at max@cypressmag.com!

  1. When drinking water, try to get it in your mouth and not all over the floor...at least not as much.

  2. When he’s eating, sit beside him and patiently wait for him to give you food (because he totally will; whine if you have to).

  3. Show your dad how much you love him by licking all over his face. He’ll fight it, but he secretly loves it.

  4. At bedtime, snuggle up close to him, right between him and mom. They love it.

  5. Play door tag. It’s my favorite game. Go to the door to be let out, dad will let you out. Then after about 10 tail wags, scratch to be let back in. Repeat. I play this all the time with my dad. Trust me. He’ll love it.

I hope you all have as great a dad as mine, who gives you treats, ear scratches, and unconditional love. Don’t forget to let your dad know how much he means to you this Father’s Day!
