Mother’s day is traditionally when we honor our mothers with gifts and kind words to let them know how much they mean to us.  However, Mother’s Day is not a happy day for everyone, and honestly, it can be quite difficult for some. Cypress recognizes that not all holidays are easily celebrated and we want you to know that we understand and you’re not alone. Here are some instances and reasons why Mother’s Day may be difficult for friends, family, or even our readers. Please take a moment to thank all mothers, no matter the type.

If Estranged From Your Mother...
Sometimes, Mother’s Day may inspire a person to reach out to their mother if they are estranged, but this isn’t always the case.  Consider acknowledging this person’s feelings and reassure them. They may really be struggling with the sentiment of the day.

If You Have a Complicated Relationship With Your Mother…
In our heads, we may feel that Mother’s Day is a happy time for everyone but the truth is, spending time with a mother that you may have a complicated relationship with can be emotionally taxing.  Just be aware of any added stress a person might be under during the holiday and try to be supportive.

If Your Mother Has Passed Away…
If your mother is no longer living, Mother’s Day can feel like you are reliving the grief of losing her. If you know someone who as lost their mom, consider reaching out and sharing memories with them, or encouraging them.  They may be having a really rough day.

If You’ve Struggled With Infertility…
On one hand, building up women and supermoms is totally awesome and that’s what makes the day great!! On the other hand, years of struggling with infertility can leave a woman’s heart a bit sensitive in some areas and make the day almost dreaded to experience. Infertility can be uncomfortable to talk about because it can feel like a personal failure.  If you know a woman that is not a mother, due to circumstances out of her control, take a moment to acknowledge that the day may be difficult and just let them know that you’re thinking of them. It will mean so much.

If you know another reason as to why Mother’s Day might be difficult, comment below and share your thoughts with us.  We love celebrating the good times but we are realistic and know that holidays can bring up a myriad of emotions and feelings.  From the Cypress family to yours, please know that we’re thinking of you on this holiday.
