Spring (or Summer) Cleaning

Ever imagine your house being completely spotless? The counters gleaming, the kitchen clutter-free of papers, the sink empty of any dishes? Though it isn’t the season to be thinking about cleaning (it’s not spring, after all), keeping a house organized year-round prevents stressful cleaning sprees just before guests arrive.

I recently finished the book The Life Changing Art of Tidying-Up, which had various resources for organization. I’ve found a few other books which have helped me tremendously in keeping the house clean, listed below. Choose what works for you!

1. The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
Although Charles Duhigg’s book isn’t directly related to cleaning, learning about the way humans develop habits is important to understanding how to keep your house organized. If you can develop habits that allow you to tidy consistently, your house won’t ever be messy again!

2.) The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik Wiking
Trying to figure out if some of the items in your home have a purpose? Check out this book to see if the objects in your home can help create a cozy atmosphere. If not, you can probably throw it out.

3.) What Your Clutter Is Trying to Tell You: Uncover the Message in the Mess and Reclaim Your Life by Kerri Richardson
Sometimes a cluttered home also signifies a cluttered life. In Richardson’s book, she discusses how a messy home reflects mess in other areas. Is there a way to improve your home while also improving your life at the same time? Read more to find the answer!

4.) A Year to Clear: A Daily Guide to Creating Spaciousness In Your Home and Heart by Stephanie Bennett Vogt. Can’t commit right away? Vogt’s guide lets you take it one step at a time. It’s difficult to part with our collected items and objects in our homes, but taking it slow may just be the way to keeping your home clean for good.
