Garry Mason: My Christmas Wish List

GaryMason002.jpg

Christmas is my most favorite time of year for many reasons. The first is that this is the time of year when we celebrate the birth of our dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This is a cheerful time of the year when families get together and forgive each other’s transgressions long enough to have a meal, unwrap presents, and share stories of past Christmas.

For me, waterfowl season has begun and is, therefore, my reason for having a Christmas wish list in the first place.

Oh, I start my list early each year, usually around July Fourth to be exact. Most of my list consists of things such as shotshells and boots and a brand new Wareagle 17 foot Gladiator Duck boat with a 37 horsepower Gator tail surface drive motor hung on the back for some high power fun runs to the Duck Blind. Or a Kohler Duck Blind to be strategically placed on the ole duck hole, wait, what’s that Honey? I must stick to things that will fit under the tree you say? Wives, they are so picky this time of year.

Oh well back to my list. I remember back during my childhood days growing up we did not have a lot of money. Well, to be honest, we did not have a lot of anything. One gift for Christmas was the norm back then if a guy had been good all year.

A bundle of switches was the promise for those who had been bad. We all know what switches were used for. Thank goodness I never got switched with my own switches. My sister had enough to go around for the whole family. (lol) Just kidding sis.

Back then my list would consist of a Daisy BB gun, a Baseball mitt, or a Basketball.

Now my list contains big boy toys.

Here are some items that I think most outdoorsmen can relate to:

Mossberg shotgun

Cedar Hill Duck call

Backridge shotshells

Avery decoys

Hybrid Light Mammoth flashlight

Costa Del Mar sunglasses

Frog Toggs Camo rain suit

Banded Chest Waders

There is just so much great stuff that I need. And stocking stuffers. I forgot the stocking stuffers. Let’s see, a can of 80 Below Gun and Reel oil. Strike King lures and some Charlie Brewer Slider Grubs should do nicely too.

I think that I am going to need a bigger Stocking. I wonder a burlap bag can be hung by the fireplace with care. What’s on your Christmas list this year?

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
