Pork Chop Apple Casserole

1 egg, beaten slightly

½ cup milk (evaporated)

6 (1-inch) pork chops

Bread crumbs

Salt and pepper to taste

3 to 4 Tablespoons melted fat

4 cups diced apples

½ cup diced onion

4 Tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon vinegar

Combine egg and milk.  Dip pork chop in milk mixture.  Roll in bread crumbs. Season to taste with salt and pepper, brown on both sides in hot fat in heavy skillet.  Remove from frying pan and place in the bottom of a casserole dish. Cover with apples and onions. Sprinkle with sugar.  Cover. Bake in a moderate 325-degree oven about 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until chops are tender. If necessary, add a little water while baking.
