No Party Like a Troll Party!

Miss Harlan Woelm celebrated her fourth birthday with friends and family in the technicolor world of Trolls! Held in the Woelm’s backyard on October 5th, Kasey Woelm, Harlan’s mother, spent the previous days hand-making all the decorations with a little help from Pinterest. She then skillfully decorated the Tiki hut her husband, Brian, built.

Harlan and her guests were entertained with various crafts throughout the party, to keep with the Trolls theme; Princess Poppy (the main character in the movie) enjoys arts and crafts. One station was painting: guests painted pre-outlined trolls on canvas to take home as one of their favors. Create-Your-Own-Troll was another craft at the party. Pipe cleaners, play-doh, googly eyes, sequins, beads, and brightly colored cotton balls were used to make new troll friends. Another important aspect of being a Troll are troll jewels. Guests were invited to fashion their own and wear them at the party.

Another guest at the party, Lady Sparkles, (Brittany Smith) took the guests’ hair to new heights. It’s a well-known fact that troll hair doubles the height of a troll. Lady Sparkle teased, sprayed, and styled guests’ hair into towering creations. Lady Sparkles then changed their hair into the color of their choice. “Hair Up!” was a guest favorite. Harlan wore a rainbow dress with rainbow tulle.

Disaster struck at the edible troll booth. All the “trolls” temporarily transformed into “Bergens.” The cake was baked into colored ice cream cones. Piped icing created the hair. Edible eyes, jelly beans, candy melts, and cotton candy were used to create the faces, ears, and hair of the ‘trolls’. The ‘trolls’ were devoured and were delicious. The “Bergens” returned to being “trolls” after the snack.

Rainbows suffused the party. A fruit plate was arranged into a rainbow and glasses were filled with Jell-O, which was layered in different colors. All Sugared Up provided beautifully decorated cookies. They were shaped as flowers, clouds, and trolls. Some were decorated with the characters Princess Poppy and Branch, others had Harlan’s name in beautiful calligraphy.

Caked and Confused by Lexi created Harlan’s gorgeous birthday cake. As with all things troll, the cake was tall: two tiers. The bottom tier had Harlan’s name in bright pastel pink and was dusted with glitter. The icing was a gradient: from pink to orange to yellow on the bottom tier and green to blue to purple on the top. Yellow fondant flowers were scattered across the two tiers. Princess Poppy and Branch hugged each other beside the pastel blue ‘four’ cake topper… Also dusted with glitter. Green grass icing and purple sprinkles lined the cakes.

The highlight of the day was the royal visit from Princess Poppy herself from her temporary residence at Party Town Photo Booth. Princess Poppy and Harlan posed with family and friends before taking their official royal photo with the birthday cake.

It was the perfect troll party. The hair was high, the glitter was abundant, and the rainbow color scheme made the party the most fun to plan. It would not have been possible without the help of family and friends. After all, there’s no party like a Troll party!
